The 71st foundation of Rupmahal Shanglen as well as 12th Hawaibam Nilamani Memorial Award distribution ceremony was held at Rupmahal theatre, BT Road, Imphal today.
The Hawaibam Nilamani Memorial Award for this year was given to a theatre artist, Loitongbam Dorendro.
The award included Rs 10,000, memento and shawl.
Speaking at the ceremony as the chief guest, Manipur Sahitya Parishad former president Prof N Tombi stated that Rupmahal theatre has played a crucial role in uniting different cultures in the State.
The present condition of Rupmahal, MDU, which once took up varieties of activities, is unfortunate, he said.
Pointing out that Rupmahal theatre which was instituted on December 3, 1943, will be 75 years old in December 3, this year, he urged the individuals concerned to organise the platinum jubilee in a grand manner.
He appealed to showcase Mukti, a Leela which was played on the inauguration of Rupmahal building and �Ningamdaba', one of the oldest Leela, on the celebration of Platinum Jubilee.
Institution of various groups such as MDU, Rupmahal not only showcase dramas and Leelas but are also the main hubs of the State's culture.
Chairman Rupmahal Theatre Keisham Heramani Singh attended the occasion as president.
