Imphal, September 06 2024:
Drone and rocket attacks carried out by Kuki militants in Moirang area on Friday which resulted in the death of a civilian has evoked widespread condemnation.
In separate releases, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Manipur, Salaai Kanba Lup and Kangleipak Kanba Lup strongly condemned the act of violence perpetrated by Kuki militants which lead to the tragic death of a civilian and left many others injured, terming as an act of cowardice on unarmed civilians.
The organisations expressed deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and solidarity with all those affected by the horrifying incident.
Furthermore, the organisations stated that use of drone technology to drop bombs and target non-combatants underscores disturbing escalation in violence and a complete disregard for human life.
It is not only an act of terrorism but a blatant violation of human rights and international laws.
The people of Moirang, who have suffered immensely due to the conflict, deserve peace and security, not violence and terror.
Calling upon the state and central governments to take immediate and decisive action to ensure safety and security of all citizens, they also demanded that the involved Kuki militants be brought to justice swiftly, and steps initiated to prevent such heinous acts from recurring.
They urged the government to provide adequate relief to the families of the victims and ensure the best medical care to those injured in the attack along with calling on all citizens to remain vigilant and support the authorities in maintaining peace and order during these trying times.
Salaai Kanba Lup stated that rocket attack carried out by Kuki militants to kill innocent civilians is complete disregard of state and central governments and also signifies helplessness of the government against the Kuki-Zo terrorists.
Demanding replacement of incompetent security advisor Kuldiep Singh at the earliest, the Lup also demanded removal of Assam Rifles from the state.
It asserted that the state government along with 50 MLAs should declare a clear stand in this regard.
Further, Kangleipak Kanba Lup observed that the attack which went unchallenged despite the presence of central forces raised serious concern about the effectiveness of the current security arrangements.
The state government, already struggling to maintain law and order, appears powerless in the face of such brazen violence due to the centralisation of power by the union government.
It further said that changing the chief minister will not solve the current crisis and highlighted the need for intervention by central government.
The central government must stop being a mere spectator and take decisive action against Kuki militants, KKL demanded.
