Inter-College students' welfare programme begins

A three-day long 'Inter-College Students' Welfare Programme' kick-started on Monday at the Manipur University centenary hall here.
Hosted by Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU), the opening function of the programme was attended by Prof RK Hemakumar, Dean of Student's Welfare, MU as chief guest, S David, President, MUSU as president, and Prof N Lokendra, Registrar, MU and Dr M Sureshkumar of Centre for Human Rights & Duties Education, MU as guests of honour.
Giving his speech on the occasion, Dr Lokendra stated that the Government of India had been giving a lot of thrust on higher education, apart from skill development and vocational education.
He underlined the importance of throwing in task by the student community in the efforts to bringing about development and changes in the society.
Dr Lokendra gave an opinion that the MU students should try to absorb knowledge to be shared by experts at the programme.
Prof RK Hemakumar put stress on the need for preserving natural resources of the land and good deeds for shaping a good society.
Dr M Sureshkumar in his speech stated that implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) is a legal grant with a proviso.
He said that ILP was necessary for protecting the indigenous people.
