Imphal, December 05 2021:
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Manipur continues to conduct verification of non-locals staying in rented houses in various localities of the state in coordination with local clubs and organisations.
The verification to ascertain whether the non-locals possess ILP pass or not was conducted on Sunday at Kakhulong Kabui Khul in Paona bazar.
The verification drive was conducted by volunteers of women's and students' wings of the committee.
Regarding Sunday's drive, JCILPS co-convener BK Moirangcha said that around 200 non-locals were verified during the drive at Kakhulong and around 60 of them were found to possess invalid ILP passes and they were handed over to police for further necessary action.
He said that detection of large number of non locals without or outdated ILP passes during the ongoing drive by the committee indicates that government is doing nothing and the ILP law remains toothless in the state due to non implementation of the system.
According to BK Moirangc-ha, scores of non-locals without possession of ILP passes were detected during the ongoing drive by the committee and handed over to police but no legal action has been initiated against these non-locals so far.
It is very unfortunate that scores of non-locals without ILP passes were, found staying in Imphal city despite heavy deployment of security, he lamented and urged government to take steps to implement ILP pass issuance system.
