Imphal, December 04 2021: Youth Affairs and Sports/Water Resources minister and Chandel MLA Letpao Haokip has announced his bid to contest in the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election in 2022 from Tengnoupal assembly constituency.

The minister announced his candidacy during his speech as chief guest of the 35th Annual | Meet of Aimol Students' Union held at Aimol Tampak in Tengnoupal AC on Saturday.

Responding to reporters after the programme, Letpao said that for the upcoming elections, he would be contesting from Tengnoupal AC.

However, he did not revealed from which party he would be contesting, although hi had won the last election as NPP candidate from Chandel AC.

Letpao further said that Manipur may be a small state but it is quite complex in the sense it is inhabited by different communities.

As such, any form of favpuritism towards a single "community will not work.

the present issue surrounding the ADC Bill touches this point and it is up to the government to ascertain whether the Bill affects the interests of the communities before tabling it in the Assembly, so as to prevent any communal disharmony.

It is time for the hill-valley to shun mutual mistrust and come togetner to produce a Bill which will protect the interests of both sides.

He also appealed to all hill based organisations to work after thoroughly examining the issue.

The minister said that there should be 'omissions and commissions' to the Bill so that an amicable Bill can be presented in the Assembly.

Any distrust and enmity between the valley people and hill people should not be built up, he stressed while adding that he has been taking a pivotal role towards swift solution to the issue.

The Chief Minister is also in favour of bestowing some powers to the district councils, he further added.

Regarding the programme, the minister lamented non-repairing of the 3km stretch of road from Pallel to Aimol village of Imphal-Moreh road.

Even though there is no project for the same at present, he assured of extending all possible help and blacktopping the road before the polls, in addition to putting forth a proposal for construction of a mini stadium under Khelo India in Aimol Tampak.

Aimol Tampak is a peace-loving place.

However, instances of misunderstandings occurring in the area from time to time often act as a hindrance to the development projects.

As such, he borrowed the words of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said that war requires lots of resources.

Thus, if a war must be fought, we must fight to eliminate poverty, diseases and against all obstructions to development, he contended.

Letpao also said that he has already started taking lip developmental works in various area of Tengnoupal district.

A person who comes out to be public leader or representative should not always wait till election time to take up development works in their areas.

The public should also not get carried away by the 'very old-school' false promises of development only after he/she is elected.

He assured that the roads leading to Aimol Khullen from Pallel Bazar will be improved, and work for the same will be completed soon.

He also revealed plan for setting up of smart villages in the Tengnoupal constituency, where facilities for better television network, mobiles phones and wi-fi connectivity will be enhanced for convenience of the people, especially the students.

He appealed all to focus more on positive attitude so that development may come, and not to always create issues as they hinder growth in any aspect, Letpao then exhorted the youth of Aimol community to take a proactive role in bringing peace and development to the state, adding that unity is key in this regard.

Stating that the area could become an important trading place once Act East Policy takes effect, the minister stressed the need for setting up huge warehouses for storage of goods, in addition to improving the road and transport system in the area.

He then appealed to all to help make Aimol Tampak village into a model village.

The programme was also attended by Kuki Chiefs' Association, Tengnoupal president LS Seikhojang Bake; Aimol social worker Mangte Joseph and Aimol Satu Village chief SH Korsoulou Aimol as guests of honour, while advocate Akhup was the functional president.
