Thoubal, December 04 2020: Bomb disposal specialists of the State police on Thursday disposed of a mortar shell at a safe place under the jurisdiction of Khongjom Police Station.

The shell was picked up by the bomb experts from Diamond Brick Farm, Khongjom owned by former Minister Moirangthem Hemanta yesterday at around 8 pm.

The shell was found from the northern side of the brickfield on Thursday at around 4.30 pm by the labourers there.

Subsequently, the Khongjom Police were informed of the finding.

Till the time of filing this report, no person/group has claimed responsibility.

Speaking to media persons, M Hemanta stated that it is the 6th time that he has been subjected to such intimidation.

Recalling that one of his escorts died in an ambush at Khongjom in 1996 when he was a Minister, Hemanta continued that he had been subjected to bomb and gun attacks sporadically.

Saying that there is neither a monetary demand nor any warning from an armed group, he appealed all to stop threatening him.
