Imphal, October 04 2019:
A photo contest cum exhibition was held today at Nupi Lan Memorial Complex here as a part of the 64th Wildlife Week.
The photo contest cum exhibition organised by Forest Department was opened by Additional Chief Secretary (Forest & Environment) Dr Suhel Akhtar.
Speaking about the photo contest cum exhibition, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden DJN Anand said that the first week of October is celebrated as Wildlife Week across the country.
As per a resolution adopted by the United Nations in 1964, the Wildlife Week is celebrated in many countries in the first week of October.
The main objective of celebrating the Wildlife Week is creating awareness among the masses on the importance of protecting wild animals.
In line with Mahatma Gandhi's belief that 'children are our future citizens', this year's Wildlife Week celebration gives more emphasis to school students, Anand said.
Different programmes were organised in all the 16 districts of the State to create awareness among school students on wild animals.
Quiz, debating, spot essay writing and painting competitions based on wild animals and natural environment are being organised at different places.
The photo contest cum exhibition is also a part of the Wildlife Week observation, he said.
Prizes of the photo contest would be distributed at a function which would be held at MSFDS auditorium on November 7, said the Chief Wildlife Warden.
Additional PCCFs AK Joshi, Anurag Bajpai, CCF (Wildlife) W Yaiskul and other officials too attended the exhibition.
Meanwhile, the 64th Wildlife Week was also observed at Yesom village, Kamjong district yesterday under the aegis of the Kamjong Forest Division.
