Imphal, September 04 2024:
Amidst the escalating violence in the state following series of drone attacks in Koutruk and nearby Meetei villages by Kuki militants, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra visited the state for two days and left Imphal for New Delhi Wednesday afternoon after meeting chief minister N Biren Singh, speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Satyabrata, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda and some cabinet ministers.
Elected from Puri Lok Sabha constituency in Odisha, Sambit Patra served as BJP in-charge for Manipur for a long time in the past and is relatively well versed in political affairs of Manipur.
He arrived here on Tuesday and met CM N Biren, speaker Satyabrata, BJP state president A Sharda Devi and some ministers, besides holding talks with state leaders individually.
What transpired during the meetings, however, could not be ascertained.
Immediately after his arrival, Sambit called on CM Biren at the latter's official residence before meeting some ministers individually.
The meetings continued on Wednesday morning with some ministers after which he headed to the residences of BJP state unit president A Sharda and speaker Th Satyabrata.
Sambit Patra stayed at Hotel Imphal and planned to visit Moreh and Behiang border village in Churachandpur district after another series of meeting with ministers.
As per his schedule, Sambit Patra went to Moreh but shelved the Behiang visit and left for New Delhi at 5 pm Wednesday after meeting CM Biren for the second time.
Even though the exact reason for his visit remains unclear, sources opined that Sambit's trip might be related to soliciting views and opinions of state leaders on the present crisis as part of Centre's efforts to find lasting solution to the conflict.
Following escalation of violence in the last few days and the conflict making headlines on national media, it is likely that the Centre might take up some steps to resolve the crisis, said the sources.
