M Asnikumar, who presided over the event, highlighted Loktak Lake's importance as a sanctuary for water birds and a key nesting site for migratory species.
Addressing the gathering, he underscored the lake's Ramsar site designation, credited largely to its water bird population.
"The water birds of Loktak are vital not only ecologically but also culturally, forming an integral part of our traditions and heritage," he stated.
He stressed the need for community participation in conservation efforts, emphasising that the lake's preservation is inseparable from the well-being of local ecosystems and communities.
Kumam Jugeshwore delivered the keynote address, spotlighting rare water bird species like the Red-crested Pochard, Mandarin Duck, and Tufted Pochard, recently sighted after decades.
He emphasised the symbolic and ecological significance of these birds, remarking, "Water birds are a testament to Loktak's vitality and our collective efforts to preserve it".
Waikhom Romabai called for a participatory approach to safeguard migratory birds.
She highlighted the provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and warned against illegal activities such as poaching and trapping, urging the community to report violations.
Ng Sanajaoba described the arrival of migratory birds as a natural spectacle and an inspiration for conservation.
"These birds travel over 20,000 kilometres to reach Loktak - a journey that reflects nature's resilience and calls for our active protection efforts," he noted, emphasising LDA's ongoing initiatives to restore Loktak's ecological balance.
M Asnikumar made a collective appeal for active community involvement in protecting Loktak Lake's avifauna.
He reaffirmed the commitment to conservation, urging everyone to take responsibility for safeguarding Loktak's rich biodiversity for future generations.
"Preserving Loktak is preserving the soul of Manipur," he said.
