Imphal, December 03 2024:
A worker of an MLA who has close links with the BJP has been found circulating leaflets of Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council with the demand for separate administration of the Kukis, in the red zone area in Pallet, charged the Congress terming it as very unfortunate.
It also maintained that the party stands for a political settlement that is acceptable to all communities.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan, here, on Tuesday, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesperson S Manaoton said that a memorandum from the World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council had been submitted to Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, and forwarded to the Lok Sabha Speaker, the President of India, Outer Manipur MP and MPs from Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya as well as MPs in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Manaoton expressed concern over misleading media reports based on the memorandum, which he claimed were intended to target the Congress.
He pointed out that the memorandum, which includes demands for a separate administration, is being circulated not by the Kukis but by the Meeteis.
It has also been reported that the memorandum is being distributed by a worker of a Meetei MLA with close ties to the BJP.
If this is true, Manaoton questioned the MLA's intentions.
He also stated that the Congress is being misrepresented in an attempt to divert attention from the ongoing crisis in the state.
In such a situation, it is not the time for "blame games," but for the government to take concrete steps to resolve the crisis instead of pointing fingers at the Congress.
The MPCC spokesperson reiterated that the Congress continues to advocate for a political settlement that is acceptable to all communities, a stance reflected in the party's manifesto.
MPCC spokesperson Rabi Khan, who was also present at the press briefing, criticised the newspaper report as misleading and said it was confusing the public.
He called on the newspaper to issue a clarification.
The MPCC legal cell is all set to initiate action in connection with the news report if no clarification is made, he added.
