Central, state ministers scan landslide hit area

Union minister of state for education Dr Subhas Sarkar on Sunday visited the landslide hit Makhuam village near Tupul in Noney district and took stock of the ongoing rescue operation.
Dr Sarkar was accompanied by MP Sanajaoba Leishemba, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, Nungba MLA D Kamei, BJP Manipur Pradesh vice president N Nimbus, general secretary K Sarat and DC Noney during the visit.
Talking to media persons at the spot, Dr Sarkar informed that he is making the spot visit to assess the ground zero situation of the rescue operation.
He informed that the Central government takes the tragic incident seriously and the state government was instructed to take up all necessary measures to recover the missing bodies.
He also said that ongoing rescue operation is being monitored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union railway minister personally.
He also expressed hope that bodies of still missing people will be recovered soon.
The rescue operation will continue till all the missing people are found, he said.
"I pray to God that they would be recovered very early and they will go to their homes very quickly", Dr Sarkar said and shared his deep grief over the loss of lives due to the tragic accident.
The minister is on a four-day visit to Manipur.
MP Raju Bista also informed media persons that majority of Territorial Army (TA) personnel killed in the massive landslide hailed from Darjeeling and cooperation being rendered by local villagers in the ongoing rescue operation is encouraging.
The devastating landslide hit the 107 Territorial Army (TA) camp located at Tupul railway construction camp at Makhuam area in the wee hours of June 30.Meanwhile, Relief & Disaster Management minister Awangbow Newmai took stock of the ongoing search and rescue operation at Marangching (Makhuam) landslide site for the third time on Sunday.
During the visit, he extended his gratitude to the rescue teams and the local villagers who are involved in the search operation for their relentless and tireless efforts.
Talking to the media, Awangbow informed that the government has put in concerted efforts in the rescue and search operation of the missing people.
There is enough manpower with well-equipped technology such as Through Wall Radar (TWR), sniffer and rescue dogs.
Five more excavators for digging the debris will reach the spot by Monday, the minister informed.
Later, minister Awangbow convened a joint consultative review meeting about the rescue and search operation with the local volunteers, Army officials, Railways officials, NDRF-SDRF officials and Village Authority leaders of Makhuam.
The meeting was also attended by additional chief secretary MH Khan, Noney deputy commissioner Haulienlal Guite, SP M Gopaldas and other officials of Relief and Disaster Management.
Union minister of state for education Dr Subhas Sarkar; Darjeeling MP Raju Bista; Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba; minister of parliamentary affairs, Assam Piyush Hazarika and HAC chairman Dipu Gangmei were also present at the site.
