Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West, today, remanded the owner ofBethel Healing Centre, Langol, identified as Naorem Ningol Thangjam Ongbi Purnima Leima, to judicial custody in connection with the death of one Ningthoujam Sanatomba at the said centre.
The accused Purnima Leima (41) w/o (L) Th Premjit of Sanjenbam Makha Leikai (presently staying at Langol type II, Aying Leikai) was arrested on May 29, after a complaint was lodged by the elder brother of the deceased stating that on the same day, at around 2 pm, he got a call from Bethel Healing Centre that his brother Ningthoujam Sanatomba, who was kept at the said centre for treatment since April 30, was feeling unwell and was suffocating.
The complainant mentioned that he rushed to the centre along with his uncle and there they found him lying dead with injury marks on his body raising suspicion that he had been beaten to death by the member of the centre and hence a case was registered with the police.
During the hearing, the 10 of the case submitted before the Court that during the course of investigation, it was suspected that the accused had thrashed the deceased with a bamboo stick due to an argument on the day and hence the accused woman was arrested.
During interrogation, the woman admitted to the charges levelled against her and the bamboo stick and two iron chains were seized by the police, the IO mentioned, praying for the accused to be remanded injudicial custody for further investigation of the case.
The Court, satisfied with the police prayer, remanded the owner of the healing centre to judicial custody till June 17 .
