Dad found guilty of killing own daughter

In his judgment, Session Judge, Manipur East, Justice M Manojkumar today pronounced that one Takhelchangbam Tomba Sharma guilty of killing his own 4-year old daughter 10 years back.
However, the court would announce the punishment for the accused father on April 6 .
According to the judgment, the accused Takhelchangbam Tomba of Bramhapur Thangjam Leirak was 24 years old at the time of the incident.
Besides him, there were three other accused in the case.
Among them, Tomba's mother Takhelchangbam Ongbi Sorojini had expired during the course of the trial of the case.
The other two accused persons, Tomba's father Takhelchangbam Brajalala and his sister-in-law Seityabhama have been, however, given clean chit by the court.
Public Prosecutor of the case, who is now the Director of Prosecution, Advocate Ng Tejkumar said that the victim daughter named Roma was just 4 years old when she was killed by her father by strangulating her on the night of May 16, 2003, at around 9 .
On the following day, mother of the victim, Kamala filed an FIR at Porompat Police Station under FIR no.88(5)2003 Porompat PS.
The four accused persons were facing charges under IPC Section 120-B/109, R/W Section 302/301, R/W Section 34 .
The accused Tomba, in his statement, said that his wife Kamala left his home on January 18, 2003 along with their daughter after a dispute.
The following day, he and his sister-in-law went to Kamala's maternal home and brought back Roma.
He also admitted to killing his daughter.
Other witnesses in the case told the court that Tomba and his family ill-treated the victim after the incident and fed her leftover foods of cat.
Port mortem report found only a leaf of Sougri inside the victim's stomach.
