Imphal, February 03 2022:
While announcing the names of 9 more candidates of National People's Party (NPP), party national president Conrad K Sangma stated that NPP will emerge as the single largest party in the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
Conrad Sangma, who is also the chief minister of Meghalaya, announced the third list of party candidates in a reception function hosted in honour of the new members at the indoor stadium of Mayol in Iroishemba, after arriving in the state on Thursday.
The 9 new candidates of the party are Sapam Kangleipal (Lamlai AC), Yumkham Erabot (Wangkhei), M Rameshwar (Kakching), Makakmayum Abbas Khan (Jiribam), T Zangkhomang Haokip alias Jangmang Haokip (Tengnoupal), Ningam Chamroy (Chingai), Seikholal Haokip (Saikul), Thangthatling Sinate (Tipaimukh) and TH Thangzalian (Churachandpur).
Speaking on the occasion, Conrad K Sangma recounted that the party was first formed at Brajamohon Mandop in Uripok on January 13,1989 and since then, has become one of the most beloved and trusted re-gionalparties of Manipur.
Since 2002, the party has taken part in a total of 5 elections in the state, he added.
Conrad also recalled that he stepped into the political arena of Manipur along with his late father PK Sangma and has visited almost all the constituencies in the state, thereby making Manipur his second home.
In addition-, his (Conrad) wife also studied at RIMS, Manipur, making the connections much closer.
Conrad continued: "After 2017, many have joined the party which is exciting and bizarre at the same time.
Aside from NPP, there is no regional party from the northeast which has a presence at the centre.
The party has always brought up issues faced by the region at the national level, compared to the lackadaisical attitude of other political parties.
Thus, NPP is a unique party for the region".
Commenting on how BJP handled its ticket distribution, the party president said that for NPP, the decision is taken after consultations and detailed discussion of potential candidates with state party leaders, taking the long-term vision into consideration.
"My vision is to make the northeastern region one of the wealthiest and prosperous regions in the country.
For this, concerted efforts and cooperation are needed on the available platform to make the vision into a reality," he remarked.
Stating that the Parliament does not listen to the issues brought up by MPs from the northeast; Conrad said that if all the 24 MPs from the northeast were to come together and NPP could produce around 14-15 MPs, the centre will have to listen to the issues and take a serious role in the governance.
The ensuing elections in Manipur will be a precursor to the polls in Meghalaya.
This will also affect the momentum of the Lok Sabha elections, he stated.
The meeting was also attended by NPP national vice president Y Joykumar, state president L Jayantakumar, MLAs Y Erabot, M Rameshwar; ex-MLA S Subhaschandra and other candidates of the party.
