Imphal, October 02 2021:
In order to discuss several burning issues of the state including the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Election due in 2022, chief minister N Biren, BJP Manipur Pradesh president Adhikarimayum Sharda and works minister Th Biswajit met Union home minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda on Friday at the party's headquarters in New Delhi.
The meeting was also attended by BJP senior leader BL Santosh, national general secretary (organisation) Bhupender Yadav, Manipur election in-charge Ch Ashok, election co-in charge and general secretary (organisation) Ajay Jamwal, state in-charge Sambit Patra and BJP Manipur general secretary (organisation) Abhay Kumar Giri.
During the meeting, CM N Biren apprised the central leader about the recent murder of Athuan Abonmai.
Accordingly, the central leaders gave their approval of handing over the case to National Investigation Agency (NIA).
While condemning the murder of Athuan Abonmai, Union home minister Amit Shah assured of booking NSCN-IM members under due process of the law if they were found involved in the killing and also to take up necessary initiatives so that such killings do not recur.
On the other hand, the top BJP leaders held deliberations on the prevailing political situation in the state and discussed strategy for winning all the 60 Assembly seats of the state in the upcoming general elections.
The meeting also discussed about BJP National president JP Nadda's visit to Manipur in connection with the upcoming election.
A proposal inviting Nadda to visit Manipur either on October 9 or 10 was also formally submitted.
However, sources could not confirm whether JP Nadda would visit the state on the aforementioned days, but confirmed that he will surely visit Manipur.
In the 2017 assembly elections, BJP had won 21 out of 60 seats in Manipur, and formed the government for the first time in the state with the support of independent legislators and regional parties.
BJP is now eyeing mere seats this time to form a government on its own.
In order to strengthen the party, Nadda also changed the state president a few months back.
BJP's main contest is with the Congress party.
However, due to frequent exodus of MLAs and party leaders, Congress party has become much weakened than before in Manipur.
