Imphal, July 02 2014:
Expressing shock at the decision of United Naga Council (UNC) to social boycott Ex MP Mani Charenamei, Zeliangrong Students' Union Delhi (ZSUD) has categorically stated that UNC has showed its immaturity and true color of authoritarianism by taking such a biased decision.
Mani Charenamei, the independent candidate during the last Lok Sabha Poll from the Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency, has been socially boycotted by the UNC on alleged charges of defying its directives and customary practices.
A joint statement signed by President ZSUD Rachubui Pame and ZSUD General Secretary Meidinlung Gangmei, while strongly condemning the UNC's Resolution No.5 of the Presidential Council Meeting held at UNC Office on May 28 last, said it considers the resolution to be baseless, unfounded and politically motivated.
The decision taken by UNC is not only misleading but it clearly indicates an attempt to assassinate the character and malign the political career of an individual by passing-the-bug and victimising the dissent to their wrongful decision, ZSUD charged, while questioning the legitimacy of the UNC on such an allegation.
'The prejudice of leaving the big defaulters unharmed and victimising an individual is rather a cowardly attempt and reflects personal vendetta', said the statement, adding that such prejudice is nothing but manifestation of immaturity and failure in leadership discipline which may eventually destruct the founding principles of the organization.
The statement further appealed to the UNC to introspect and stop playing the politics of exclusion.
Rather, UNC should be the guardian of Nagas unity and not otherwise, it said.
Stating that such decisions may create misunderstanding, confusion and division among the Nagas, ZSUD said it strongly upholds the decision and appeal of the esteemed Councils (i.e., Rongmei Naga Council, Manipur, Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur, Zeme Naga Council and Inpui Naga Union, Manipur) through their press statements dated June 24 last.
