Imphal, February 01, 2013:
Following installation of solar power plant by MANIREDA, Senapati mini-secretariat has been freed from the irritating and chronic problem of frequent power-cuts and black-outs.
The mini-secretariat has been functioning for the last eight months on solar power without using even a single unit of the conventional electric power.
As a part of its initiative taken up under the Ministry of New Renewable Energy to install solar power plants of 25 KV capacity each in all offices of Deputy Commissioners, MANIREDA installed a solar power plant at Senapati mini-secretariat and it was commissioned in June last year.
The Senapati DC office is housed within the mini secretariat which was inaugurated by former Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in November 2010. On account of certain lapses in the wiring system of the mini secretariat and non-availability of the conventional electricity in adequate quantity, the whole office is depending on the solar power plant for its power requirements.
However, two blocks of the mini-secretariat which was constructed with SPA fund are yet to be completed.
In the meantime, cracks were development in some portions of the building as a result of an earthquake which occurred in the recent past, informed a source.
It is said that MANIREDA Director L Manglem has already handed over the solar power plant to Senapati DC PK Jha.
PK Jha said that power is available in his office round the clock since the solar power plant has been installed.
All electronic gadgets like computers, fax machines etc.are being run with the power supplied by the solar power plant, the DC said.
On the other hand, the Community Service Centre set up at Katomei village near Senapati district headquarters under National e-Governance plan was found in a pitiable condition when a team led by the MANIREDA Director visited the centre.
Even as solar power plant was also installed at the QSC, there was no separate control room and power supplied for the centre was also found distributed to others.
