ZYF demands AR to release its functionary

Imphal, August 31 2015: Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) alleged that the 8 Assam Rifles (AR) has been frequently picking up public leaders and innocent persons by leveling baseless and fabricated charges and allegations against them which is unbecoming of ethics of security forces and undeserving of guardian of law.

A statement issued by ZYF General Secretary David Kamei said the 8 Assam Rifles posted at Kotlen picked up one Andrew Gangmei of Namching Maha Kabui village from near the BRTF camp of Keithelmanbi along National Highway No 37 under Sapermeina Police Station on August 30 at around 11 am.

It said Andrew is presently working as the Vice-Chairman of Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) Sadar Hills Zone.

The ZYF Vice-Chairman is currently lodged in the custody of Lamphel Police Station, the statement said.

He is not related or connected with any unlawful organizations in whatsoever manner as his antecedent can be ascertained from the village Chairman or from the concerned Police Station within the jurisdiction where the village of the ZYF Vice-Chairman is situated.

Therefore, the concerned authority should release the ZYF Vice-Chairman immediately without any condition, it demanded.

Failing on the part of the concerned authority to meet the demand would compel the organization to take up different forms of democratic agitation in order to secure his release for the ends of justice, it warned.

The 8th Assam Rifles also made attempts to pull up innocent persons namely Gaisinglung Gangmei (40), son of Lanthaolung Gangmei and Meikinglung Gangmei (45), son of Gaiphulung Gangmei, both hailing from Khonglong Kabui village, and Makudinang Riamei (55) s/o (L) Khangoulung Riamei, ZYF claimed.

The background and identities of these persons can be ascertained from the village Chairman or concerned Police Station in case of any suspicion or doubts on them, it said.

ZYF demanded the 8th Assam Rifles to immediately stop meting out unnecessary harassment and psychological intimidation or mental disturbances to innocent persons by violating the fundamental rights of citizens and the liberty to live life peacefully without any interference.
