Students raze down toilet complex of DMC Science

Imphal, July 30 2013: Unsatisfied over the pathetic condition of the toilet complex of DM College of Science and the failure of the authorities concerned to pay attention to it for quite a long time, angry students of the college along with the volunteers of DESAM today destroyed the toilet complex once and for all.

The toilet complex, which was destroyed today, has been in use ever since the establishment of the college.

Few years back, the toilets of DM College of Science became unfit for use and foul smell began to release.

The students have time and again complained to the concerned authority to mend the toilet.

However, no action was taken up in the regard.

As such, the college students along with the volunteers of DESAM ultimately destroyed the toilet complex today.

Addressing media persons in this regard at DM College of Science here today, A Thoithoi, General Secretary of DESAM, stated that DESAM has been launching various agitations for improving the basic infrastructures of the educational institutions in the State.

In the midst of these agitations, Education Minister M Okendro boldly announced that all the basic infrastructures of the schools and colleges of the State would be developed and a complete change in the education sector would be brought about within six months.

However, the assurance of the Education Minister has not been fulfilled even to the level of 10% .

He further stated that, the destruction of the unusable toilets (for boys) of DM College of Science clearly indicated that Education Minister has not fulfilled his tall promises.

The toilet complex which has four toilets in all has been left unused for the last many months.

The faulty smell from the toilet disturbed the conducting of classes in the college and the students have been facing a hard time.

He also informed that there are no toilets for girls in DM College of Science.

The students are presently using the toilet in the Girls Common Room.

Even the girl's hostel whose construction was started five years back has not been completed till today.

As such, the girl students of DM College of Science are presently staying in the hostel meant for GP Women's College which is located inside the complex of DM College.

Thoithoi also warned that if the concerned authority failed to complete the constriction process of the toilet complex of both girls and boys of DM College of Science as well as the girl's hostel, toilet inside the Girl's Common Room and the incomplete Girl's Hostel will also be pulled down completely.

Okram Premjit, General Secretary, DM College of Science was also present on the occasion.
