Sikibung villagers petition CM for compensation

Demanding immediate payment of compensation for villagers of Sikibung village whose lands have been affected by the construction of the Thoubal Multipurpose Dam, the Sikibung Village Authority on September 28 submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur appealing for early payment of compensation and redressing the grievances of the villagers.
The memorandum signed by the village headman Wungreikhan Kasar stated that an expert review committee consisting of different Departments like IFCD, Agriculture, Horticulture, Central Agriculture University, Earth Science Department of Manipur University, ICAR and members of MDAVO visited the village and assured to take up the matter of the non-payment of compensation of the village which was declared affected in the report of IFCD in 1998.However the village has been left out without survey and no compensation were provided to the villagers.
While condemning the stand of the state government to inaugurate the project in March next year, the village authority demanded that the state government conduct the required survey and provide the compensation at the earliest before the completion of the project.
