Not intimidated by GTH boycott call, asserts CM

Imphal, September 28 2021: Chief minister N Biren has asserted that the government would pay no heed to any obstructions raised by self-interest groups while working for the welfare of people.

He made the statement while attending a grand loan distribution programme (fair) under North East Economic Revival Plan organised by State Bank of India, Imphal Region at his secretariat office here on Tuesday.

The CM proclaimed that the government would continue its 'Go to Hills 2.0' in all districts and take up developmental programmes to bring inclusive progress in all sectors.

There is no one on earth who could hinder the developmental activities and initiatives taken up for the welfare of the people.

The government will continue its developmental works in the hills, he affirmed, while declaring that he will visit Kangpokpi and Senapati to inaugurate developmental projects with apparent reference to the call given by some tribal organisations to the people to boycott the government's 'Go To Hills' programme.

Lauding PM Narendra Modi for launching various public welfare schemes, Biren said that politicians should work for the welfare of the people.

Observing that the people are now happy, he revealed about receiving missives from many people and organisations to visit their places despite restrictions.

Biren made it clear that he is not the one who will not visit the places because of such restrictions.

A people's representative should work with a firm ideology.

It is inevitable that there will be groups that will support and stand against the government.

Can one disintegrate the land just for mere political posts, he questioned, while adding that the people should stand together against such acts and love one another.

Unfortunately, some politicians are indulging in divide and rule policies and using rhetoric that could incite communal discord just to sway the people to win election, he contended.

Biren went on to say that the government has been concentrating on import and export of certain consumables and started taking up steps for import substitution to make the state self-reliant.

Construction of certain check dams and tube-wells is in progress and once completed, farmers in the state would be able to practice double cropping thereby increasing their production, he added.

Biren informed that a combined team consisting of representatives of state government and SBI would be constituted to conduct surveys on various Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) operating in the state.

The team would collect data and analyse whether an MSME unit had already availed loan, needed financial support, or advise what could be done for growth and expansion of the unit.

Regarding the loan distribution fair of State Bank of India, he informed that the target is to provide loan to 10,000 beneficiaries incurring an amount of Rs 22 crore for the financial year and out of the targeted beneficiaries, loan for around 450 beneficiaries had been sanctioned so far.

Stating that the government aims to provide services for better health of all people, he announced that a scheme for doorstep health testing service would be launched soon.

Under the scheme, free health testing service would be made available to everyone and medicines would be provided free of cost to those with minor health problems under Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana.

Apart from this, Ayushman Bharat and Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang cards would also be distributed to eligible beneficiaries if they had not availed the same, he added.

The CM urged the public to avail benefits of loan from the bank if they have any plan to carry out income generating activities.

He also expressed his desire to improve the living condition of every poor household in the state.

Addressing the gathering, SBI North East Circle chief general manager RS Ramesh said that SBI was privileged to enhance the credit flow of Manipur as a part of the North East Economic Revival Plan.

He continued that 414 beneficiaries had been identified under PM Street Vendor& Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi), Agriculture and MSME beneficiaries under MUDRA, etc, with a total amount of Rs 11.34 crore.

He added that such distribution of loans would help in employment and income generation in the state.

During the function, 104 beneficiaries were provided loan varying from Rs 30,000 to Rs 5,00,000 .

Education minister S Rajen, agriculture minister Oinam Lukhoi, chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, Commissioner (Vety &AH) H Gyan Prakash, officials of SBI and beneficiaries attended the programmt among others.
