Malem resumes hunger strike

Transgender activist Malem Thongam, who had been arrested by Delhi police for launching hunger strike in Delhi demanding abrogation of SoO with armed Kuki militants who are attacking the innocent Meiteis, is still continuing the agitation at Khurai Konsam Leikai YOSC club since Tuesday.
Speaking to this daily, Thongam Amuba, father of Malem, who is also the president of Lamyanba Irawat Memorial Integrated Trust (LIMIT), Maiba village, said that the crisis in the state has been going on for the last 10 months and still the Prime Minister of India refuses to utter a word in this regard.
The PM should visit the state and ensure that the crisis is ended and peace restored.
He further said that the hunger strike has been launched demanding the state and central governments to abrogate the SoO agreement as the peace pact has lost its meaning due to Kuki militants creating the crisis in the state and targeting the civilian population.
The agitation was launched by Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) and LIMIT in New Delhi on February 22 .
On the first day of the agitation, Malem was picked up by Delhi police and released the next day.
From the day he was release, Malem resumed the strike and Delhi police re-arrested him but released the following day.
After staging the hunger strike on February 26 at Jantar Mantar he returned to Manipur and started the same from February 27 at the YOSC club.
The hunger strike will continue till his demands are fulfilled, Amuba added.
