Imphal, January 27 2023: The Meitei Pangal Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee (MPSTDC) has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh to recommend inclusion of Meitei-Pangal in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list of the Constitution.

In the memorandum, MPSTDC said that Meitei Pangal are backward in all parameters and the degree of their backwardness has been shown by the socio-economic survey carried out by the Manipur Government in 2004 .

Meanwhile, the MPSTDC submitted a representation each to Mayang Imphal AC MLA K Robindro Singh and Kshetrigao AC MLA Noorul Hassan to persuade the Government to include Meitei Pangal in the ST list and discuss the matter in the upcoming Assembly session, today.

The two MLAs reportedly assured the committee of raising the matter in the Assembly if there is discussion on the ST list.
