Kakching, July 25 2014 :
Vehicular movement along Imphal - Moreh section of the National Highway 102 was paralyzed following imposition of indefinte bandh by civil organizations of Aimol Tribe in protest against alleged failure of the State Government to evict the encroachers along the road from Pallel to Lingsikung on the first day today.
Large numbers of bandh supporters armed with sticks blocked the road by piling up woods and boulders at Unapal Lamkai near Pallel along the Imphal- Moreh section of the National Highway to prohibit movement of any kind of vehicles.
However, emergency services, media, medical and religious related programmes were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Except for damaging one car and other 2 two wheelers by the bandh supporters for defying the bandh, there is no other reports of violence during the bandh so far.

While speaking to media at the sideline of the bandh, Sote Aimol, General Secretary of Aimol Tribe Union, Manipur said that the indefinite bandh was enforced jointly by Aimol Tribe Union Manipur ( ATUM ), Aimol Numeivar, a Women Organization of Aimol and Aimol Students Union Manipur (ASUM) in protest against the failure of the State Government to evict the encroached structures along the Aimol Road from Pallel to Lingsikung.
The General Secretary pointed out that they had imposed similar bandh earlier and submitted several memorandums to concerned authorities of the state government including the local MLA and the Chief Minister.
However, the state government ignored the voices of the people and turned deaf ear to their 'genuine demand' .
While appealing to all for co-operation during the bandh, Sote Aimol demanded the state government to initiate eviction drive along the said PWD road at the earliest as it was too congested and narrow due to illegal encroachment on both sides.
Meanwhile, supporters of the 48-hr bandh being called by United Naga Council ( UNC ) also blocked the Imphal - Moreh section of National Highway at Thamlapokpi village in Chandel District today.
The bandh supporters, most of whom were women enforced the bandh along this section of National Highway and prevented vehicles coming from Moreh towards imphal to proceed further.
