'Save Shiru Lily' cycle rally flagged off

Imphal, May 24 2022:
Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam and Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing jointly flagged off a cycle rally with the message to save Shirui Lily from the western gate of Kangla, here on Tuesday.
The rally, which will culminate in Ukhrul district, is being organised in connection with the Shirui Lily Festival 2022 beginning Wednesday.
Around 50 cyclists are participating in the rally.
Speaking on the occasion, Karam Shyam reminded all concerned that Shirui Lily is a rare flower, which is available only in the state and the government is organising the festival with the objective to protect the rare flower.
He expressed confidence that the cycle rally organised by Cycling for Humanity will help in spreading the message on the need for protecting the flower by saving its natural habitat as well as protecting the natural eco- system of the state.
Stressing the need for a united effort from all, he appealed to the people of the state to stop deforestation.
Tourism director W Ibohal, who was also present at the flag off ceremony, said that the rally is being organised to spread awareness on the need for protecting the endangered flower species.
While thanking all the supporters of the rally, he appealed to all to cooperate in ensuring safe passage of the cyclists up to Ukhrul.
Classic Group of Hotels general manager Salam Sachidanand and key officials of tourism department were also present at the flag off ceremony.
