DESAM calls 17 hours general strike March 26

Condemning the minister portfolio to Independent Candidate from Jiribam Assembly Constituency, Ashab Uddin as Education, CAF and FD during a parliamentary secretary swearing-in-ceremony held at Chief Minister Bungalow at Secretariat yesterday evening, Democratic Students' Alliance Manipur (DESAM) has called 17 hours general strike in the state from the midnight of March 25 to evening 5pm of March 26 .
Speaking to the media persons at DESAM temporary office at Sagolband Moirang Leirak, Nameirakpam Edison Meetei said that it is quite unfortunate for the people of the state that a non-indigenous persons have been given the portfolio of Parliamentary secretary while the people of the state and different student bodies have been protesting to save the indigenous people of Manipur.
The agitation of the students' body is against the inclusion of non-ethnic people on forming the state government not particularly to Ashab Uddin for his minister portfolio but against those non-indigenous people, he added.
Edison also said that the state government must withdraw the Minister portfolio of Independent Candidate from Jiribam Assembly Constituency, Ashab Uddin as Parliamentary secretary of Education, CAF and FD without any condition.
In this regards, the students' body has called 17 hours general strike in protest of minister-ship to non-indigenous people in the state.
More strong protest and agitation will took place in the state after the end of 10 and 12 examinations which is going-on if the concern and state government fails to comply with their demands, he added.
Meanwhile, the Oriental college Students' Union and Standard College Students' Union has extended their support to join the protest with the student body.
