RIMS to implement EPF scheme for its contract staff

Imphal, June 22 2021:
To implement EPF scheme and ensure minimum wages for its contract employees, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has started registration on the web portal of the Ministry of Labour & Employment and 295 contract employees have so far been allotted UAN numbers, RIMS said in a press release issued on Monday (June 21) .
Others who are yet to get UAN number will be allotted the same after they submit their Aadhaar card.
The release further said that RIMS had submitted a letter on March 2, 2021 to K Hungyo, assistant PF commissioner (compliance), EPFO, RO Guwahati, requesting extension of the time limit for allotment of UAN number and generation of challan as there was lack of awareness among some of the contractual staff about the importance of EPF deduction from their wages.
The institute had also sent a request letter (March 2, 2021) to deputy secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for approval with regard to the implementation of minimum wages rate issued by the Ministry of Labour, for which the institute is awaiting response from the Ministry, it said.
In the meanwhile, RIMS is considering increase of rate of wages for Grade-IV contract employees but the whole process has been delayed due to COVID-19, the release added.
