Imphal, October 21 2011:
Extending support to the cause of agitating students of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, All India Tribal Students' Association, Manipur Branch (AITSA-M) has questioned how can there be instances of wrong entry of roll numbers in the mark sheets and how can anybody run a University with just three class rooms.
In a statement, General Secretary of AITSA-M Vincent Zou said that it is known that IGNTU does not provide library facility to the students when even Secondary Schools have their own libraries now-a-days.
"We must not forget that books for post-graduate courses are not readily available in the markets.
Even if the books are at all available in the market, tribal students normally can't afford to buy them.
This kind of serious cases should not be forgotten", Vincent pointed out.
With regard to seat reservation for admission to various courses, the AITSA-M statement contended that the existing 25 percent reservation for tribal students is not at all satisfactory.
"If cent percent of the seats are not reserved for the tribal students, then what is the use of naming it a 'Tribal' University?", the statement questioned.
The University authority and the State Government have remained silent in spite of submitting numerous memorandums and the students boycotting their classes and exams.
The Vice Chancellor of the University and the officials of the state government to whom the students have submitted their memorandums should be held responsible for the present crisis in IGNTU,
AITSA-M asserted.
