Sahitya Thoupang Lup celebrates 'International Mother Language Day'

Imphal, February 21 2021: Sahitya Thoupang Lup organised an award distribution programme in connection to 'International Mother Language Day' celebration today.

The annual Khumbongmayum Gourahari Madhumati mother language award was presented to Chungkham Jasobanta during the programme.

Speaking at the programme, M Joy, commissioner art and culture said, 'we all have equal responsibility in protecting and preserving our mother language and we should all work towards making the newer generation well aware of our own language' .

Sharatohandra Thiyam, advisor, Sahitya Thoupang Lup, said Sahitya Thoupang Lup has been celebrating February 21 as 'International Mother Language Day' since 2012 following the decision of UNESCO to celebrate the same since 1999 .

He also reiterated that MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has also presented the need for including our language in 'Classical language list' and inclusion of Manipuri language in currency notes at the Parliament.
