Ukhrul, September 20 2012:
The tribal student bodies on Thursday reiterated their demand over Teacher's Eligibility Test (TET) stating that the examination centre should be opened in all the hill districts and have set three-day deadline to the State government.
In a press communiqu issued by Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) that was endorsed by other tribal student bodies, it is said that the State government has been apprised of meeting the demand by September 23 and has been warned of imposing total bandh in all the hill districts for 48 hours.
"In the event of failure to meet the demand of tribal students, the entire hill districts will be clamped with total bandh on September 24 and 25," said TKS president Yangmi Khapai.
The demand on TET is being endorsed by Senapati District Student's Association (SDSA), Churachandpur District Student's Union (CDSU), Zeliangrong Student's Union Manipur (ZSUM), Naga Student's Union Chandel (NSUC) and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) .
The tribal student bodies have been pursuing the demand concerning TET since last year, but failed to get satisfactory response from the State government.
The tribal student bodies admitted that the State government is responding to their demands but all in a manner of piecemeal treatment.
"We want a concrete and positive action from the government in this matter," the statement said.
