Imphal, November 19 2023:
While observing that the state government seems to be waiting for loss of more lives instead of taking up measures to solve the present crisis in the state, former minister AK Mirabai has questioned whether the present government will wait for more innocent people like Abemcha, who lost her life during the Kangchup incident, to make the sacrifice before the crisis comes to an end.
AK Mirabai was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of observance of 106th birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, the first and only woman Prime Minister of India, on Sunday.
She recalled that during the time of Indira Gandhi as the Prime Minister of India, she (Indira Gandhi) strived for safeguarding the territorial integrity of India in addition to her efforts to maintain peace and tranquillity in the country.
With sheer sacrificial spirit, she contributed her mite to make a strong India.
Her contributions are still remembered by the people of the country till this day, Mirabai recounted.
Following her steps, we should fight all forces which are trying to destroy the unity and integrity of the nation as well as the state.
The women folk of Manipur need to come together and fully exercise the power given to them, the idea of which was initiated by the late Prime Minister, and save Manipur from the present crisis, Mirabai exhorted.
AK Mirabai further stated that the crisis in the state has been lingering on for more than six months now and many people have lost their lives, with the latest one being the case of Abemcha from Kangchup.
The state and the central governments seem to be waiting for more people like Abemcha to sacrifice their lives.
Moreover, the bodies of students Linthoingambi, Hemanjit, Avinash and Anthony are yet to be recovered.
The government has not been able to take up actions against the culprits despite its assurances of doing the same, she alleged.
Mirabai also charged the BJP state government of not being able to take up any actions against the Kuki ministers and MLAs who are blaming their own government for the incidents happening
in the state.
