SFs recover IEDs weighing 28.5 kg, arms 8 ammos

In a successful joint operation on Thursday, Indian Army and Manipur police recovered significant number of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) near Bongjang and Itham villages in Imphal East district.
Acting on specific information, the Army and police acted swiftly and launched an extensive search operation, employing Army's explosives detection dogs.
The operation resulted in the recovery of seven IEDs, weighing approximately 28.5kg.The IEDs were defused by experts from Army engineers, elaborated PRO Defence in a release, adding that the recovery prevented a major disaster and saved precious lives.
According to reports, the Army and police averted a major disaster on Thursday by recovering the seven IEDs containing explosives of 28.5 kg.
The IEDs were buried and set to detonate on receiving appropriate signals.
Army's Eastern Command, headquartered at Fort William in Kolkata, said that the ensuing explosions could have caused severe damage to life and property.
The reports also quoted the MoD as saying that recovery of the seven IEDs is the second major haul over the last three months.
On July 20, eight IEDs weighing 33 Kg were recovered in the hilly areas of Saichang Itham, Imphal East and neutralised by the bomb disposal teams of the Indian Army "The swift response of the Indian Army in sync with the Manipur Police has once again exhibited seamless coordination between the security forces operating in the state and also ensured the safety and security of the region, sending a strong message to anti-national elements," the MoD stated in a release.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles conducted extensive combing operations based on a reliable input, leading to recovery of weapons and warlike stores between Gunjil and Border Pillar 48 & 49 in Chandel district on September 16 .
The seized items included one pistol, one grenade, three local made mortars (pumpi), ammunition and warlike stores, all of which have handed over to Manipur Police, said a release by PRO IGAR (S) .
