Vehicle lifters nabbed

Imphal, June 19 2012: Two vehicle lifters were picked up by Imphal East District Police Commandos from Bamon Leikai near new Thumbuthong at around 2:15 am today.

The two vehicle lifters and the vehicle recovered from them were paraded before media at Imphal East Police station.

The arrested vehicle lifters were identified as Md Iliyas Khan (21), s/o Md Abas Khan of Sangai Yumpham Puleipokpi and Md Jallaludin (36), s/o late Md Hellaludin of Lilong Ushoipokpi Makha Leikai.

Briefing media persons, M Rajen, Addl SP (Ops) Imphal East informed that a team of CDO Imphal East under his command and under the supervision of Kamei Angam Romanus conducted a Counter Insurgency Operation in Singjamei Bheigyabati Leikai and New Thumbuthong Bridge.

During the operation, the two persons were seen coming in a very suspicious manner and they tried to escape on seeing the commandos.

The duo were chased and apprehended.

On interrogation, they turned out to be vehicle lifters.

The vehicle they have lifted belongs to one Khagembam Nishikanta, s/o late Kh Nilachandra of Singjamei Wangma Bheigyabati Leikai, Kongba road.

The two persons informed that they have lifted the vehicle from the house of Nishikanta on the same day, the police officer informed.
