Symposium on free and fair election held

Imphal, January 19 2014 :
A one-day symposium on "Free and Fair Election for a Meaningful Democracy" was organized by the Senior Citizens for Society, Manipur in association with People's Campaign for a Resurgent Manipur at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul here today.
The inaugural function of the symposium was attended by Secretary of Senior Citizens for Society Prof L Sadananda, former Chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women Dr Ch Jamini, former Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University Prof IS Khaidem and nonagenarian Thokchom Pakchao (94) attended as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sadananda said that democracy can be made meaningful only if the right representatives of the people are elected through free and free election.
The elected representatives should work selflessly for the welfare and development of the people.
The people should also exercise their franchise responsibly to choose the right representatives, he noted.
The symposium was chaired by Prof IS Khaidem with Convener for People's Campaign for Resurgent Manipur Dr B Deven Sharma, President of AMBA Khaidem Mani, Editor of Imphal Times Ringku Khumukcham and Chief Functionary of CERI MC Raj as the speakers.
