Imphal, July 17 2015 :
Strongly condemning the indefinite closure of educational institutions in Imphal area by separate orders of Manipur Government's Education (S) Department and Higher and Technical Education Department on July 8 last, which is an act of violation of Right to Education (RTE), Deputy Secretary Education and Academic Affairs of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) Nameirakpam Edison Meetei on Friday filed a PIL in the High Court of Manipur.
The words used in the orders ".acts of using the students community for their ulterior motives" by the Manipur Govt., is a clear example of immature persons who head the Govt., said a press release by the Students' Union.
While saying that students have been taking a major role in the ongoing ILP movement which demands to implement inner line permit system in Manipur, the release said the ILP movement is not a personal issue.
It is unfortunate and meaningless to be thus charged by the Govt.which failed to pigeonhole such movements as major public issue.
DESAM denied the charge of the students being used since in most cases the students themselves had started the movements.
DESAM alleged that the orders to close down all educational institutions, blaming the students for agitations, are not reasonable and amount to an act of violation of educational rights.
Govt.should take a serious note of the decision of students of Higher Secondary Schools in Imphal area, who resolved to boycott classes demanding reopening of schools and colleges immediately, punishment of police personnel who are involved in the killing of student and implementation of a bill to safeguard indigenous communities of Manipur at earliest.
While demanding the Govt.to take action against those police personnel who killed Sapam Robinhood, DESAM also appealed to the students to reconsider their decision to boycott classes.
