Drugs worth ₹62 cr seized in CCpur, two held

Assam Rifles deployed at Headquarters Veng in Churachandpur district on Thursday recovered banned Yaba tablets and brown sugar estimated to worth around Rs 62 crore from Mata village area in the district.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the operation was conducted based on a credible input and further corroborated by own sources, regarding the movement of contrabands from Myanmar towards Mata village, which is located about five kilometres south of Headquarters Veng.
The PRO further informed that a column of Assam Rifles deployed at Headquarters Veng established a mobile vehicle check post in general area of Mata village around 11:30 pm Wednesday.
At about 4: 30 am Thursday a suspected vehicle (Fortuner/ UP 16 DQ5045) was stopped for checking at the MVCP during which two individuals confessed about carrying contraband items including brown sugar and WY/ Yaba tablets.
The apprehended persons disclosed of being residents of Mata village and Bible Hill Renkai, both in Churachandpur district, the PRO said, adding that the recovered items include 208 soap cases of brown sugar worth around Rs 12 crore, around two lakhs tablets of WY/Yaba estimated to worth around Rs 50 crore, Rs 3,37,500 in cash, four smartphones with six Indian SIM cards, one Burmese SIM card (MPT) and the Fortuner vehicle.
The seized items and apprehended individuals have been handed over to Churachandpur police station for further investigation, the PRO informed while also highlighting that the significant seizure is a testament to the relentless efforts of Assam Rifles in combating the illicit drug trade and maintaining security in the region.
