CIRCA urges people to hoist Pakhangba flag on Oct 18

Coalition for Indegenes' Rights Campaign Manipur (CIRCA) on Friday appealed to the people to hoist the Manipur 'national flag' on October 18 at 8 am and commemorate the day when the first Manipur State Assembly session was held after it got independence from the British.
The main event will be held at 11 am at Oinam Keithel in BIshnupr district.
During a press meet at Manipur Press Club here, CIRCA convener Somorendro Thokchom said that a public conference was organised by AMSU and DESAM on August 21 last at GM Hall.
The conference admitted that the political conflict between the Government of India and Manipur State created the present situation in the State.
It also resolved that there should be a debate about the August 14, 1947, the day British granted Manipur's independence, and September 21, 1949, the day when King Bodhachandra was forced to sign the Manipur Merger Agreement.
The conference also resolved to set up an ethnic council in the State Assembly to safeguard identities, cultures and traditions of all the communities in Manipur.
Another convention was held on September 21 last to translate the three decisions into action, said Somorendro Thokchom.
A total of 225 sit-in protests organised by CIRCA were held in different places demanding the pre-merger agreement so far.
The campaign kick-started on September 21 last and Manipur's Pakhangba flag were pulled down half way during the campaign which is a month-long one.
