Policeman vehicle lifter, drug peddler arrested

Imphal, June 16 2021:
A team of Yairipok police station on Tuesday seized an A Star car (MN01G-6740) near the Tengnoupal police station gate along with arresting its owner a policeman, who was involved in stealing of a Vespa scooter (MN06SA-8378) from a Masjid at Yairipok Bazar on June 4 .
The accused policeman has been identified as Md Tarique Ajij (30), son of Md Abdul Latif of Sangaiyumpham Part 1, presently posted at 8th Bn Manipur Rifles Leikun, Chandel district.
According to police reports, on Tuesday information was received that an A Star reported to have been stolen was spotted at Moreh Bazar.
Immediately SI Y Shankardas Mangang, SI W Deepakchandra Singh and ASI S Maneshwor Singh proceeded towards Moreh.
On approaching Lokchao bridge, the said A Star car was seen proceeding towards Imphal.
Thereby, the team chased the car and intercepted it near the Tengnoupal police station gate.
On questioning, the driver of the car Md Tarique Ajij disclosed that the A Star car was used while stealing the Vespa from the Masjid of Yairipok bazaar along with one colleague namely Md Nawaz of Urup and had also kept the stolen vespa at his house at Sangaiyumpham.
The accused policeman was arrested on the spot at 4:10 pm along with the car, while the stolen Vespa was recovered from his house.
The arrested policeman along with the seized vehicles has been handed over to Yairipok police station for initiating necessary legal formalities.
According to our Thoubal correspondent, the co-accused person of the vehicle theft case (FIR NO 30(6)2021 YPK-PS, U/S 379/34 IPC) namely Sangomsumbam Nawaz Khan alias Aboi (23) s/o Sm Isamat of Urup Salanpham was also arrested by a team of Yairipok PS led by SI Y Mangang from his residence at 9:10 pm on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, two teams of Churachandpur police station led by its OC raided suspected houses at Tonglal Veng on Wednesday at 3 pm and arrested one drug peddler with of 990 gm of suspected opium from his possession.
The raid was conducted based on information that some residents of Tonglal Veng are indulging in narcotic and drug business.
According to police reports, the teams while conducting search inside the house of one Satkholam Haokip (38), son of Thangnoh Haokip of Tonglal Veng found a packet of suspected opium weighing approximately 990 gm inside the bedroom.
On further search of the house, a sum of Rs 6,29,400 suspected to be the proceeds from sale of opium was found concealed inside a box/drawer attached under the bed.
The arrested person and the seized drug were taken to Churachandpur police station where a case was registered for further investigation.
