Religious leaders confer on issues in Manipur

Religious leaders practising different faiths held a day long consultation of on the theme "The Manipur: We Want" on Thursday at Regency Hall, Classic Hotel, Imphal.
The event was organised by United NGOs Mission, Manipur (UNMM) .
In a press note, UNMM coordinator R Boipu Koireng said the leaders shared their views and thoughts on what they want for the future of Manipur.
During the event, recommendations and topics discussed include the protection of land, forest, river, mountains, lakes, agricultural fields etc.; quality education forchildren and young generation; employment generation; religious tolerance; need for minorities to take part in decision making process etc.
Other topics covered include the need to establish a Core Committee with the representatives from religious institutions, civil society, NGOs, women groups etc.
besides developing a strong legislation on indigenous people's rights Act under UN Declaration of Rights of the Indigenous People.
The consultation also urged the Government to develop a Policy on prevention of the "ethnic cleansing, ethnic conflict/violent conflict with due consultation with all the ethnic communities' in Manipur.
The leaders also urge all the armed non-state groups operation in Manipur to stop factional fights and killings.
Leaders who participated in the consolation include Brahma Samaj, Utra Sanglen, Jamiatul-ulema, ISKON, Manipur Baptist Convention, Kuki Baptist Convention, Roman Catholic, Evangelical Churches of India, Presbyterian Churches of India, Evangelical Congregession Church of India, Believer Church of India, Eternal Life Ministry, Seventh Day Adventist, Tangkhul Baptish Church, NGOs etc.
