Imphal, February 16 2025:
BJP national spokesperson and North East coordinator Dr Sambit Patra, who has been camping in the state since February 9, left for Kolkata Sunday morning without accomplishing the task he was assigned, which was finding consensus chief ministerial candidate to replace N Biren.
Dr Sambit arrived here on February 9 along with then chief minister N Biren from New Delhi.
When all the preparations for convening of the 7th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly from February 10 was made, a chaotic political situation prevailed in the state due to possible 'no confidence motion' against the N Biren-led government.
After hectic discussion about political development in the state with Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Th Satyabrata, minister Khemchand and chief minister N Biren Singh at New Delhi, Dr Sambit came to the state on February 9 together with N Biren.
On the same evening, Dr Sambit along with N Biren and council of ministers went to Raj Bhavan and submitted resignation letter.
He met ruling MLAs including of NPF and security advisor Kuldiep Singh individually at Hotel Imphal, North AOC.
He then met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla for several times before the state was placed under President's Rule.
Except telling a news agency that state assembly has not been dissolved but put under suspended animation after the imposition of President's Rule, Dr Sambit Patra did not utter a word to media about the reason for his visit to the state though he seemed like an observer to settle conflict among the state's BJP legislators.
As there is no immediate plan for forming a new government in the wake of resignation of chief minister N Biren, Dr Sambit left for Kolkata early Sunday morning.
Nevertheless, the BJP North East coordinator may discuss and resolve political crisis in the state with party's central leaders at the national capital.
