Senapati, January 16 2025:
Reiterating its stand against border fencing, the United Naga Council (UNC) appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs to immediately stop construction of the Indo-Myanmar border wall fencing in Naga areas.
According to a statement of UNC publicity wing, a team of the council led by its president Ng Lorho along with representatives of CNPO and its units, ANSAM, MSU, ANCFM, RAMO, NCAC and village authorities of Satang, Choktong, Lamlong Khunou and Waksu villages made physical inspection of border areas on January 15.The team found border fencing construction work at Border Pillar No 81, affecting some stretch of Naga areas at Satang village.
The UNC lamented that Nagas never agreed to the bilateral pact between India and Myanmar that delimited and demarcated Naga areas by dividing along the artificial imaginary line drawn without the informed consent of the Naga villagers.
The proposed imaginary border fencing in the middle of the Naga area, ignoring the traditional boundary with Myanmar is not acceptable.
The Nagas cannot afford to be further fragmented and let the people live in isolation from the rest of India, the UNC said while reiterating that the Nagas want to maintain status quo.
The UNC warned that in the event of any eventuality which may arise out of the issue, the Government of India (GOI) and the Government of Manipur (GOM) shall be responsible.
