Biren, Nitish condemn killing of Bihar duo

Chief minister N Biren has strongly condemned the killing of two youths from Bihar, Sunalal Kumar (18) and Dasharat Kumar (17), in Kakching district, terming the incident as an act of terrorism and an attack on societal values.
Expressing his deepest condolences to the grieving families, the CM assured swift and decisive action against those responsible.
Taking to social media platform X, the CM emphasised the gravity of the crime, suggesting it might be part of a larger conspiracy aimed at destabilising Manipur and spreading fear and insecurity.
"We must stand together against such destructive forces and ensure they do not succeed in their attempts to create chaos," he wrote.
As part of the government's response, an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh has been announced for each bereaved family.
Additionally, CM Biren reaffirmed the state's commitment to justice, stating that every possible effort is being made to identify, apprehend, and prosecute the culprits behind the heinous crime.
The CM also indicated the possibility of transferring the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to ensure a fair and thorough investigation if required.
He reiterated the importance of standing united against forces attempting to destabilise the state and creating fear among its people.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also expressed grief over the killing of two migrant workers from the state in Manipur's Kakching district, and announced ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for family members of the deceased.
The victims were construction workers and lived in a rented accommodation in Kakching.
"The CM has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of two migrant workers from the state in Manipur's Kakching district.
Heartfelt condolences to their family," a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said.
"He also directed officials of the state's social welfare and labour departments to ensure that the family members get other benefits, too, as per existing provisions," it said.
