Imphal, August 14 2024:
Thadou Tribe Council, general headquarters (TTC-GHQ) dismissed as false and unfounded statement by chief minister N Biren Singh made in the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 12 about holding talks in Imphal for resolving the present crisis.
According to a statement of TTC-GHQ, chief minister Biren claimed about inviting the Thadous for parleys in Imphal with 20-30 people and more proposals from Kuki-Zo cognate tribes.
However, the Council has no knowledge of such developments, and anything beyond its purview is invalid.
It said that N Biren's statement appears to be an attempt to mislead the people of Manipur and was a form of cheap propaganda to appease his political superiors in Delhi.
The Thadous are a peace-loving and the largest tribe in present-day Manipur.
Nonetheless, the community remains determined to achieve justice and a sustainable political solution before peace can be secured, the statement said.
While clarifying that the council has no knowledge of the newly surfaced Thadou Community International (TCI), the TTC-GHQ statement said every Thadou-based organisation including youth, women and student bodies were established following proper procedures and most importantly with the blessing of the TTC-GHQ.
Accordingly, the so-called Thadou Community International (TCI) is a bogus entity formed by some non-resident Thadou individuals with vested interests, in collusion with CM N Biren Singh.
The so-called Thadou Community International (TCI) led by two/three individuals is believed to have been in constant contact with the chief minister of Manipur.
This is evident as N Biren's statement in the Assembly was in response to an open letter from Thadou Community International requesting not to be referred to as Kuki or by any other name.
It is possible that the TCI leaders of 20-30 persons are whom the chief minister expects to come to Imphal for peace negotiations, it maintained.
