Consultative meet on problems faced by NE people held in Delhi

Imphal, October 13 2015:
For the first time, Union Secretary, DoNER Ameishing Luikham and his team held a consultative meeting on friendly schemes and plans for people hailing from Northeast who have been residing in metro cities of India following the recommendations of the Bezbaruah Committee report.
The meeting was held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on Tuesday.
After brainstorming sessions and feedbacks from participants, all members gave suggestions and opinions.
During the meeting, the DoNER Ministry agreed in principle for funding one whole floor (1000 square metres) for a proposed Delhi Police Special Unit building at Nanakpura, New Delhi for counseling and providing assistance to crime victims.
The meeting also decided to carry out empirical survey on the problems faced by Northeast people in Delhi.
Funding and locating of land for North East Centre in Delhi on the pattern of India Habitat Centre at Delhi was also mooted.
It was suggested that a monthly meeting with all representatives of NGOs from all 8 Northeastern States should be held for brainstorming feedbacks.
The DoNER Ministry informed that it was taking steps to implement recommendations of Bezbaruah Committee for addressing problems faced by Northeast people in India cities.
