Imphal, May 13 2025: The mortal remains of BSF soldier Deepak Chingakham who was killed in a cross border firing by Pakistani troops were laid to rest with full State honour today.

The mortal remains of BSF Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham reached Imphal International Airport this afternoon.

At the airport, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and many other top Government officials and military officers including Rajya Sabha Member Leisemba Sanajaoba, Lok Sabha Member Dr Bimol Akoijam, MLAs, Chief Secretary PK Singh, DGP Rajiv Singh, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, high ranking officers of BSF, Assam Rifles, CRPF and Gurkha Regiment paid rich tributes to the martyr.

The Governor laid a wreath on the mortal remains, honouring the courage and sacrifice of the martyr.

The wreath laying ceremony reflected the State's collective grief and deep gratitude to Deepak's service to the Nation, said a press release issued by the Governor's Secretariat.

Later the mortal remains of Deepak Chingakham were taken to his native village, Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai, Imphal East for the last rites.

As the people made their way to Yairipok Yambem, many people came out to the streets and paid their last respect to the martyr holding the Indian National flag.

At Yairipok Yambem, security forces gave a gun salute to the fallen soldier.

Rajya Sabha MP Leisemba Sanajaoba said that the people of Manipur are proud of the supreme sacrifice made by Deepak Chingakham in defending the country from enemy forces.

Saying that the sacrifice of the young soldier will be remembered forever, the Rajya Sabha Member expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.

He also prayed that the departed soul may rest in peace in the heavenly abode.

Deepak Chingakham (25) of 7th Battalion, BSF was on duty in RS Pura area of Jammu on May 10 when the area came under fire and bombardment from Pakistani troops.

Deepak who sustained injuries in the attack died the next day.

Meanwhile, Standard College, Kongba has condoled the demise of Deepak Chingakham.

Students, teachers and non-teaching staff of the college observed silence for two minutes today in honour of the departed soul.

Deepak was a Political Science (Honours) student of the college, according to a press release issued by the Department of Political Science, Standard College.

Juva Janata Dal (United) Manipur State unit has also condoled the demise of Deepak Chingakham.
