RIMS commemorates World Kidney Day

RIMS Department of Nephrology, observed World Kidney Day 2025 on the theme "Are Your Kidneys OK, Detect Early, Protect Kidney Health", at the OPD Block of the Institute on Thursday.
The observance was attended by RIMS director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, medical superintendent Prof Nepram Sanjib, dean (Academics) Prof Th Meera and Department of Nephrology head Dr T Brojen Singh as presidium members.
In his speech, Prof Sunil Sharma said that as majority of kidney diseases are diagnosed when the organ has been damaged up to 90 per cent, there is a need to undergo kidney related tests regularly so to maintain good health of the organ.
For this, there should be awareness amongst the people in this regard, he observed.
Recounting the first kidney transplant operation conducted at the Institute in August last year, the director said that it was a proud moment for RIMS and appreciated the doctors, nurses and other medical staff of the Institute.
Patients now no longer need to travel outside the state and incur huge medical expenses for kidney transplantation, he added, while informing that efforts are on to establish a Nephrology Ward for kidney patients within the next 1-2 months, along with addition of 20 more dialysis machines to the existing 17 machines.
During the observance, two patients who underwent kidney transplantation and patients who have undergone dialysis for a long time but are now recovering, were honoured with simple gifts.
Later, a template containing information about kidneys was released by the dignitaries.
