Imphal, April 12 2013 :
AMSU has clarified that it was never consulted before the Deputy Labour Commissioner issued a notification on December 28 last year which fixed anew the charges for cutting hair and other labour charges that would come into effect from April 1 this year.
Speaking to media persons at their head-office this afternoon, AMSU secretary general Romen Leishangthem said that the Deputy Labour Commissioner's notification mentioned the new rates were fixed a joint meeting of the Deputy Labour Commissioner, AMSU and members of the All Manipur Barbers' Association.
No AMSU member was present in the meeting and no copy of the Deputy Labour Commissioner's notification was received by the student body, Romen said.
As such, the notification as well as the labour charges fixed in accordance to it are unacceptable to AMSU.
Nevertheless, a joint meeting of AMSU, All Manipur Barbers' Association and Labour Department was held on October 19, 2010 .
The meeting agreed to fix the charge for hair cutting at Rs 20 and cutting beard/moustache at Rs 10.The notification issued in 2010 stated that the rates fixed thereby would be in force till March 2013 .
It also mentioned that another round of meeting would be held on April 2, 2013 .
Romen went on to question as to why a notification was issued in December 2012 without informing AMSU.
