Imphal, January 12 2025:
Manipur police has strongly refuted allegations circulated by certain media outlets accusing Ukhrul SP Kartik Malladi of aiding Kuki militants.
In an official statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the police described these reports as baseless and misleading.
The allegations, reportedly based on a press release from the NSCN-IM, were dismissed as "blatantly false" .
The statement clarified that on December 12 and 19, 2024, Ukhrul district police extended security support to Border Security Force (BSF) teams traveling to'Molhang Kuki village, Kangpokpi district, and later to trucks carrying labourers and construction materials for the building of security barracks.
These barracks are meant to house BSF companies in the village.
The actions, according to Manipur Police, were carried out at the request of BSF and Kangpokpi district police and in adherence to directives from police headquarters.
"Posting or publishing unverified facts tarnishes the image of the Ukhrul district police and the reputation of the SP," the X post added, appealing to media outlets to exercise caution and ensure factual accuracy.
The allegations against the Ukhrul SP first surfaced in a report by Ukhrul Times, which cited a statement from the NSCN-IM .
The report alleged that on December 18, 2024, the SP had ordered policemen to escort four vehicles loaded with rice, tin sheets, and concealed materials to Molhang Kuki village under the guise of delivering supplies for CRPF personnel.
Upon arrival, around 200 Kuki militants were found waiting, who hurriedly unloaded the items without letting the policemen know, the report cited NSCN statement.
The report further claimed that the incident substantiates long-standing accusations of Kuki militants receiving logistical support from security agencies.
