HC includes Ministry of Home Affairs as respondent

The High Court of Manipur has impleaded Union of India represented by Ministry of Home Affairs as a party respondent in connection with the suo moto PIL (Public Interest Litigation) taken up by the Court for re-monitoring of criminal cases against MPs and MLAs.
The order was passed by a division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice A Bimol after hearing the matter on December 9 .
The Court after hearing observed that since the sanction for prosecution also involves the permission of the Ministry of Home Affairs in terms of Section 45 (1) of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, it was inclined to add Union of India represented by the Ministry of Home Affairs as a party respondent in the PIL.
The Court also directed the Secretary (Law), Government of Manipur to get a safe and secure witness room and granted time till January 14 to report compliance.
The Court fixed December 16 for next hearing.
