Landslide causes extensive damage to Khenjonglang Theatre Complex

Imphal, August 11 2020: Persistent moderate rainfall for the last one week in various parts of the State have resulted in landslide of the Awa Ching located at Keirao Khunao of Imphal East district today, causing extensive damage to the Khenjonglang Theatre Complex located adjacent to the hillock.

The complex suffered damage when mud, boulders and other debris carried by the landslide hit the theatre complex around 4:00 am .

Dr S Thaninleima, Director, Khenjonglang Theatre said that the 89 sq ft wide stage has been damaged to a great extent by the landslide and it is unlikely for the stage to be usable without repairs.

The dining hall, dressing hall, plus musical instruments, lights and other theatre props have also suffered damages to the tune of Rs 11 Lacs, she added.

The Director further added that details about the accident will be reported to the Irilbung Police Station as soon as possible and urged concern authority to look into the matter.
